Report on Widening Access 2022-23

20th December 2024
The updated Report on Widening Access 2022-23 was released in December 2024:
It provides some interesting updates on our care experienced learners-
  • In the college sector, 4.0% of enrolments to full-time higher education courses were from care experienced learners
  • 10.1% to full-time further education courses in 2022-23 were care-experienced individuals
This is a record high; we want to extend our recognition of the commitment from college and university teams in ensuring their places of learning continue to support care experienced learners.
The report also evidences how transformative education can be to future outcomes. Our care experienced graduates from full-time first-degree university courses in 2021-22 were more likely to be in work or further study 15 months after completing their course than those not declaring themselves as care experienced. For 2021-22, these figures were 98.9% and 95.8% respectively.
It is great to see a rise in the enrolment of care-experienced students in both higher and further education. We look forward to continuing to work with you all in ensuring these efforts grow and develop.
