We are open to people of all ages who have experience of care.
Please see the link for a detailed explanation of care experience.
You don’t need to meet the definition of ‘care leaver’ or be under 26, to access our services.
We can also provide information and advice to carers and others who support people with care experience.
Here are some examples of who the Hub has helped so far:
Andrew is 15 and lives at home with his mum. He has a social worker, so is therefore care experienced. Andrew is unsure if he wants to stay on at school or go to college. Andrew dreams of going to university. Andrew has a few different things he would like to study – but he is unsure of what qualifications he needs.
Alex is 44, works full-time in social care and would like to train as a social worker. Alex spent periods of time in foster care when he was a child and is therefore care experienced. Alex has a family and a home and needs to continue to work. He has some qualifications, but is unsure if these count towards the social work degree. Alex wants the best pathway to this qualification, getting the quickest route.
Harry is 16, lives with his granny, Harry was removed from his parents’ care by the local authority and placed with his granny. Harry is therefore care experienced, and lives in formal kinship care. Harry would like to become an nurse, but doesn’t know if he has the right qualification. He has tried to look at what is available, finds the information confusing and overwhelming and is unsure of where to start.
Louise is 18, and lives in foster care: Louise is care experienced. Louise is at university but feels that she has chosen the wrong course. She would like to think about changing courses and perhaps also university – Louise wants unbiased advice and guidance.
Thomas is 20 and went straight from school to university and is in 3rd year. Thomas is also a parent. He was looked after at home and had a social worker and then moved into foster care: he is care experienced. Thomas wants to go onto further study, maybe in social work or maybe in law. Thomas wants to find out the best route to each, the timescales and financial commitments. Thomas also wants to speak to someone who has studied law and someone who has studied social work, to get an insight into their roles.
